| | Common People - Pulp | ] | Went to a game of Aussie rules football on the weekend. Two hours of confusement and puzzlement later it was over. I am pretty easy pleased when it comes to sport, ill sit down and watch anything. Aussie rules football how ever made absolutely no sense. I for the life of me could not figure out the rules or what the hell was going on. I got so far as 'object of the game is to kick the ball through the posts at each end of the field". Ok that seemed straight forward enough, but I don't think there are any real rules on how this has to be achieved. Players just seemed to be piling on the ball and even punching the crap put of each other when 'no one was looking'. There were a group of Irish sitting behind us who seemed to be loving it. Apparently the game is the same as some weird form of football they play in Ireland. I asked these guys to explain the game to me, but sadly they were even harder to understand than the rules. I gave up and just enjoyed my pie and beer combo. |

Dual Pistols You preferred a weapon with 20% power over speed and 61% range over melee. |
You use Dual Pistols.
Best done with relatively light pistols like Berettas, a pair of pistols is the quintessential Street Samurai's arsenal. Stylish and fast, a pair of pistols is inaccurate but fearsome. You excel at providing cover fire and look cool while doing it. Your opponents will dive for cover when you reach to your sides. |

My test tracked 2 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:

You scored higher than 3% on power |

You scored higher than 75% on range |

| | Tainted love - Manson | ] | Andrew passed away last night. It's not right for a guy only just turned 26 to have life end like that. He fought the damn cancer long and hard. Everyone around him was so proud. In one way it is good that it's finally over for him. The last two weeks or so he was on serious pain relief, and had no use of his limbs. The biggest down side I know for him will be he didn't get to see the end of the super 14 rugby, even after Tana Umanga paid him a visit in his hospital bed. Don't worry Andrew, i'll cheer on the hurricanes for ya mate. Rest well! |

| | sad | ] | Geez, talk about time for an update. I thought you were all suposed to be abusing me for not updating regularly. Consider yourself all on a warning!
Well onto the news. Bekka, Seth and I are now into our new appartment. Yay I hear the masses cry!! Yea it's about time, after finally finding a place we like, getting it secured in our name we then had the mighty event of moving. From here on in I shall be saving up several hundreds of dollars with the sole purpose of PAYING SOMEONE ELSE to move us. All was, good, we had plenty of help which made the task much much easier. The hiring of a big assed truck was also a brilliant idea instead of using the ute and making multiple trips as previously planned. There were a couple of incidents which put a small downer on the over all day. Firstly craig falling down the stairs while moving the fridge we could have done without. On a plus, big up's for not dropping the fridge in the fall. The only other event bringing the day down was the only local aussie having to leave early. So upon time to return the truck I realised I had no idea in hell where I needed to go. Much driving and extreme preiods of lost confusement I somehow happend to find myself in the right location. Trust to the gods of 'not wanting to pay late fee's'.
Those things aside, we got into the new place and unpacked in all of 3 days. Now we have room to swing a cat! I mean we actually have room to pick aslan up and swing him round literally mwahahaha. Down side to that is im not allowed to do it. The tennancy rules say no cats, so if he suddenly starts screaming we could be in trouble. Seth seems to like the new place, no longer angered by the tile floors when he falls. It makes the bumps on his head seem less significant.
Speaking of Seth he has a new cot and has taken to it like bears to hunny. By that I mean he has already half chewed the thing apart.
Geek news is very sad at the moment. I have yet to really find anyone here I am happy to get in a roleplaying group with. Been ou tot a couple of interesting little bits and peices but they all ended up being d20 D&D, and very rules heavy. Thanks but I think ill just pass. Would love to get some exalted going, neeeeeed exalted. Re-reading the comics has made me start to twitch from a lack of... Wargaming remains scarce. My only real outlet is still 40k, havn't had a game recently though. My projects at the moment are puttin gthe finishing touches on my Sisters of Battle, Just started working on the first two units of my Tzeentch Lost & the Damned army. Am also doing a Khorne army for my soon to be brother in law. Oh plus the odd unit for his flatmates Space wolves army, apparently he wants the fancy units to look flash.
The ugly news right now is that one of the few real mates ive made here since being in Australia has been taken back to Wellington to die. He has been fighting cancer for a long time now over here, and it looks to have won. After attacking his spine and rendering his limbs useless the treatment has failed to stop it progressing into the brain. His family made the decision to bring him home to New Zealand and let him pass on in his own country instead of a strangers. The doctors told us all yesterday that it is a matter of days now not months. This crap should not happen to a 26 year old.
So Andrew....If I can't get home soon, im thinking of ya mate. I know you're still gonna be reading this, everyones prayers are with you and we know no mater what we will see you again soon. |

Silly music meme Stolen from doom_bees
1. Open up your media player or winamp or ipod or whatever, set it to shuffle. 2. Skip through the first 10 or so songs and list them. 3. Add "in my pants" to the end of each song title.
A storm is coming in my pants. (sorry about that) Hope and Memory in my pants. Minis Tirith in my pants. The white tree in my pants. (don't you know it!) The steward of Gondor in my pants. (eeeewwwww) Shelobs Lair in my pants. The ride of the rohirrim in my pants. Twilight and Shadow in my pants. Hope fails in my pants. The end of all things in my pants.
Hmm. Maybe I need to mix my play list up, or I shouldn't have done this while listening to the Return of the King soundtrack. |

| | The return of the King | ] | Better update. It's been awhile.
Nothing to much to report really. Spent the last week and a bit getting everything packed up ready for the move this weekend. Our apartment looks like a squatters home right now with mattress on the floor and all the furniture down stairs in our garage. You don't realise how much of your stuff you use day to day until you can't use it because it's in a box. I can't believe they are going to charge us $90 to move our broadband connection to the new apartment. It takes a guy two seconds to flick a switch and hey presto. Assholes!
When we get into the new place I should be able to get back into painting as well. There are O so many models screaming at me to finish them.
With the new job I now have to take the train to work each day. It's a pleasant change in most regards. I can now read on my way to work which I couldn't do on the bus. I have quickly established quite a few of the train etiquette and rules in my own mind. I just wish everyone else on the damned train would learn them too. for example: 1 - On a three person seat don't sit on positions 1 and 3, then make a third person squeeze past you to get into the middle seat. Slide over you lazy fucker, it's only a few inches of movement. 2 - (and this is an obvious one) Let the frail old lady sit down. With her standing she'll probably break a hip when the train stops. 3 - During peak travel hour don't get on the train with your surfboard. There is hardly enough room for the people trying to get to work, without including large stupid objects. 4 - Also during peak travel time do not eat your breakfast on the train. Your toast crumbs I am happy to leave to you.
This morning I had a guy sitting right beside me chewing gum. Have no problem with gum, but is there really a need to chew with your mouth open and trying to make as much noise as possible? Like a big wet drooling sloppy cow sitting beside me. I tolerated it for a little while, hoping he was just being a dick and would stop soon. The large guy in front of me obviously got annoyed quicker than I. I had to laugh when he turned around and told mr chewer that he had a choice to take his glasses off or leave them on, either way if he didn't shut up he was going to get a broken nose. With the size of this rather scary and tattooed man threatening me like that I think I would have swallowed the gum while diving out the trains window. Even if it was moving.
Either way the chewer stopped and got off at the next stop. |

| | The Steward of Gondor - Return of the King | ] | Fuck I hate Mondays...
For once there is no one thing happening that makes me hate today, but still I hate mondays because they are there to hate. When things go wrong it's always Mondays fault. My head hurts like hell and I can barely keep my eyes open. Rebekka and I spent the weekend wandering the streets of Sydney looking at new apartments. Our lease is up in two weeks time and i'll be damned if im going to stay living in the roach infested crap hole. I mean sure the apartment is super modern and fantastic with all it's mod-cons and space. But they could have told us it had a roach problem before we moved in. so in 36+ degree heat we were looking at house after house. It's amazing how by the end of the weekend when you sit down to weigh up each place, you suddenly realise you can't tell them apart. To really get me angry one of the agents we made an appointment with didn't show. When I called him, he let me know the place had already been leased. Umm thanks for calling and letting me know, thanks for making me drag my 6 month old son around in 36 degree heat you fucking asshole. I realise that I have also started to speak my mind a lot more since living in Sydney. It used ot be I would think something but just kept it to myself. Now? oh no, if people here piss me off I make sure they know it. I think it maybe because Sydney people are just so rude and stupid it irritates me to much higher levels than ever before.
On a positive note, the one place we decided we would take if we were offered it is now ours. Got a call first thing this morning from the landlord! It's actually a lot similar to our current appartment. Same two bedroom's etc. Bedrooms are slightly smaller, but the lounge is much bigger, and there is heaps more storage. The garage is bigger, which means gaming space for me. Oh and the bathroom has an actual bath! Great timing on that one with Seth almost bigger than his baby bath now.
On the geek side of things, I still have not got any role playing in. I have picked up the Exalted comics, which in hind sight was a really silly thing to do. I have the exalted itch and no way to scratch it. 40k goes slowly. After kickin ass in the mini tournament here I havn't had much othe opportunity to get a game in. I have met up with a bunch of senior gamers though, who are keen to be in a campaign of some kind. Just good to get away from the GW bunker and the hordes of kids that come with. |

| | ecstatic | ] | I got woken up this morning by a baby hitting me in the face. Not normally something I would be overly grateful for, but as I opened my eyes I saw Rebekka holding Seth so that he was hovering over my head. He had a huge grin on his adorable little face, and as i lay there wondering what was going on he looked at me and said "Dada" again with a hit to my noggin. To all those out there who say they want to wait for kids, I laugh! Everyday becomes a more momentous occasion, I become even more proud of Seth as the seconds tick by. I never thought I could top the moment of his birth, but since then it has been one fantastic event after another.
I love being called Dada. It's the best thing ever!
Seth and I also sat down on Sunday and watched Serenity on DVD. Not sure how much of the movie he took on board but he sure loved all the flashing and spaceships. Oh and he has a thing for River. Every time she came on screen he got his big cheesy grin on. Good boy. |

I thought pre-ordering it four weeks in advance would be fine. Of course show up this morning and find they under ordered them, and in fact are about 20 short, me being one of the poor bastards to miss out. I had to settle for the not quite so special copy that comes in a cardboard slip case thingee. Turns out the only difference between the two was the tin anyway. But how can you under order 20 copies when you take pre-orders? Muppet's the lot of them.

I'm sure I will get used to him soon and the constant sneezing will go away. In the mean time god bless drugs (the across the counter kind). Of course none of this may be a problem for long, as the cat seems to enjoy chewing on power cords. TV, Radio, Lamps it doesn't mater. | | Joy Drop - Vibrate | ] | Well lets get started on an update. My last post it seems was in October and it is now February. Oh the shame. Well Christmas and new years was excellent. Christmas day saw a big picnic at Rebekkas mums place. The guest list consisted of all the strays who had no where else to go. Friends and friends of friends who had arrived in Sydney from far off distant lands (mostly NZ and the UK). It turned out to be an excellent day even though no body knew everyone else. Lots of bourbon was drunk, more food was consumed than is ever healthy and friends were made. Present of the day award goes to a combined family effort with Bekkas mum, sister and brother between them getting me every Star Wars movie on DVD. You rock!
New Years was a very relaxed affair. My father came over from NZ, and he, I, Bekka and Seth avoided the gazillions of people flocking to Sydney by heading into the mountains. To the west of Sydney lies a huge mountain range called the Blue Mountains so named due to the blue haze given off by native trees not yet eaten by koala's. One area of the mountains has a small township called Katoomba. I have no idea what Katoomba means in local dialect, but by my definition it means hippy central. Bekka had a great time and enjoyed the over hipiness. I just loved getting out of the city, enjoyed the bush walks and amazing views.
With new year out of the way and having some time off to reflect where I was and what was going on in my life, I came to a discovery. I hated my job! Recruitment is fine, being the go between for people helping them find a job, that part of the job is fine. The part I hated was the IT people. Computer nerds all of them. I'm sorry, I just got you a job with a $20,000 payrise and you say no because it's an extra 10 minutes drive? Excuse me mr dick head go kiss my ass. IT people in Australia are all jerks. There is such demand for them, they get paid way over there real value and think they get away with anything. So I left. I am still in recruitment, but now focusing on hospitality. I still do a little bit of IT but can pick and choose now. Only dealing with the people I want to. Hospitality is far more fun, going out to lunches at resturants and chatting with chefs. If any of you out there want hospitality work in Australia or NZ drop me a line. Oh and I was made more happy by the EXCELLENT payrise I got offered mwahahaha.
Now thats me, the more important aspects of my life to update are: Rebekka. Bekka is doing really well. She continues to be the stable aspect of my life, with raising our son and keeping the home in good shape. One of the hardest parts of her moving to Australia was leaving her cat flop behind. With Valentines day very soon, I came home yesterday with a kitten that by my own cat disliking standards was very cute. Bekka is one very happy lady, I think the lack of a pet in her life was getting to her. Being a long time C.S. Lewis fan and currently back on a big Chronicles or Narnia kick she has named the little fellow Aslan.
Seth: He continues to grow into a not so small ball of utter amazement. I could sit and watch him all day (if it wasn't for all the poo and vomit). Far to mobile for my liking, he is trying to get into everything. I had to go out a week or so ago and buy a baby cage. Apparently they are called play pens, but in truth it is a cage in which to keep him under control. His first real word is only moments away. Over and over again he tries to get a 'mama' out. Damn I hoped his first word would be dad. On a down side he is teething again. Already his two bottom front teeth are out and are sharp as hell. now the matching top are coming through, ouch!
On a completely non family note: We went and saw Underworld 2. Excellent. there is just something about hot vampire chicks kicking ass.
That is all for now. |
